The Golden Dolphin International Puppet Festival was held in Varna, October 1 – 6, 2008.
The International Jury:
President – Rozalia Radichkova, theatre critic;
Shu-Ming, director, general manager of the Song, Song, Song Children’s Puppet Theatre – Taipei, Taiwan;
Hulio Michel Villacorta – manager of the Titirimundi International Puppet Festival – Segovia, Spain;
Professor Maya Petrova, stage designer, NATFA - Bulgaria;
Katya Petrova, director
Rumyana Nikolova, secretary, expert in Theatre, Music-hall and Circus Arts Directorate of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture
gave the following awards:
1. Greatest Award The Golden Dolphin for entire performance – “The Big laugh”, Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria, staging Veselka Kuncheva, stage design Marieta Golomehova.
2. Special Award The Golden Dolphin for entire performance – “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Beyond the Frontiers”, Graduate Students Company – Sofia, staging Jeni Pashova.
3. Award for original Bulgarian puppet play – Maria Stankova, ”The Big Laugh”.
4. Award for stage adaptation of literary work – Slavcho Malenov, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen”.
5. Award for original music – Hristo Namliev for the music of the performances „The Big Laug” (Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria) and “Beauty and the Beast” (State Puppet Theatre – Varna).
6. Award for musical setting – not given.
7. Awards for stage production:
- Veselka Kuncheva - “The Bih Laugh”, Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria;
- Jeni Pashova and Petar Pashov - “Jack and the Beanstalk”, Graduate Students Company – Sofia
8. Awards for artistry – man’s part:
- Georgi Spasov as Baron Munchausen in “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” – Stage Puppet Theatre – Stara zagora and Theatre “Atelier 313”;
- Mihai Dumitrescu in “Candide”, The Tandarica Puppet Theatre – Bucharest, Romania;
- Rumen Gavanozov as Sancho Panza in “The Big Laugh”, Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria.
9. Awards for artistry – woman’s part:
- Maya Bejanska as Dulcinea in “The Big Laugh”, Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria;
- Polina Hristova as the Mother in “Jack and the Beanstalk” – Graduate Students Company – Sofia, Bulgaria.
10. Awards for stage design:
- Marieta Golomehova for “The Big Laugh” (Capital Puppet Theatre – Sofia, Bulgaria) and “Beauty and the Beast” (State Puppet Theatre – Varna);
- Andrey Zaporozhskiy and Alevtina Torik for “The Moon of Salieri”, The Brest Puppet Theatre - Belarus;
11. Award for best technical team – State Puppet Theatre - Varna.
12. Award for development of theatre’s means of expression – “The Cave and the Shadows”, State Puppet Theatre – Varna.
13. Award for debut, furnished by the Union of Bulgarian Artists – Graduate Students Company - Sofia.
The journalists from the Varna area give their award (a diploma and sculpture of Alexander Proynov – Aper, furnished by the Activ Art Gallery – Varna), to professor Rumen Rachev for the performance “Theatre Exhibition”.
